Habitat Management

Active Management and Restoration of Wetlands and Ecology

Following the completion of the non-in-situ land exchange arrangement, Green Power was commissioned by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department on 1 May 2024 under the Countryside Conservation Funding Scheme to proactively conserve Sha Lo Tung by habitat management, species surveys, and public education, including:

  • Active management of Sha Lo Tung’s marshes, pond, and riverbank habitats, to effectively maintain and improve wetland quality;
  • Regular patrols and monitoring to reduce the threat of human disturbance and improper behaviour in Sha Lo Tung’s environment;
  • Conducting a series of ecological baseline surveys to comprehensively collect the local ecological resource data, including dragonflies, freshwater fish, amphibians and reptiles, mammals, butterflies, birds, fireflies, and plants;
  • Using aerial photography technology to capture the image of the entire Sha Lo Tung basin and collecting data, to create a habitat map of Sha Lo Tung;
  • Leading the public to learn about the history and ecology of Sha Lo Tung and to participate in conservation work through a series of community participation and education activities.
